IFSS 2013 Spain – From Madrid to the Mountains

The 41st International Forestry Students’ Symposium took place in August 2013 in Spain.
We visited various locations, mostly in the Northern part of Spain, starting in Madrid and travelling to Galicia as well as the region of Castilla y Léon. We learnt about Dehesas (very open, dry forest systems will multiple uses), and the dangers and management of forest fires. A daytrip took us to the Islas Cies were we could watch uncountable species of birds and enjoy a day at the beach.

The more serious part of the Symposium consisted of the five sessions of the General Assembly as well as various workshops. IFSA LC BOKU once again managed to be very much involved in the international work of IFSA and four members of our LC were elected for official positions within IFSA:

Daniel Schraik – Treasurer
Katharina Albrich – Executive Secretary
Magdalena Lackner – Liaison Officer for IUFRO
Martina-Marianne Meyer – Regional Representative for Southern Europe

We congratulate them and wish them a sucessful year!

This IFSS was a very special experience for all the participants from Austria. Many great friendships were formed and we carried home a lot of inspiration and motivation for our future IFSA activities!

Thank you IFSS 2013!
